Can I be straight with you?
Growing up, I naively thought that New York in the Fall was only about picking apples. No one mentioned that the Hudson Valley was also ‘Wine Country’. We are surprised to be surrounded by so many wonderful Wineries and Vineyards. After following a recommendation from a friend, I decided my first visit to a Winery would be to Benmarl Winery, in Marlboro, NY.
Where is Benmarl Winery Located?
Benmarl Winery is ‘literally’ in my backyard, in Marlboro, NY, Ulster County.
My family lives ‘down the road and across the way’ and with every visit, we are enchanted more and more by this beautiful place.
According to their Website:
“Nestled in the lush green hills of Marlboro you will find Benmarl Winery. Overlooking the Historic Hudson River Valley, it’s 37 acre estate lays claim to the
oldest vineyard in America.”
Benmarl Winery in the Winter
Our first visit to Benmarl Winery happened in the Winter of 2015 when they host a Special Valentine’s Day Wine and Cheese/Chocolate Tasting. Although the grounds were covered in snow, we looked out the window of the tasting room and fell in love with the spectacular views of the Hudson Valley below. Set high up in hills of Marlboro, NY this winery offers the most amazing views of the Hudson Valley.
The wine selections are amazing too! During the visit we sampled at least 5 different wines and paired them with either a cheese or a chocolate, all according to the guide offered to us as a paper mat. The guide instructs you regarding which wine pairs with either the cheese or chocolate. Everything was delicious and we enjoyed ourselves very much, that we decided we would have to make a return visit during the summer.
Benmarl Winery in the Summer
Fast forward to the summer and my husband and I bought tickets to their Annual Sangria Festival. On the day of the event, the heat index reached 100 degrees, but we made the best of it. There are several varieties of Sangria to sample at the event. I am happily surprised to see that it is also a family-friendly event, with children dancing and enjoying themselves alongside their families. In addition to the Sangria tastings, there is also food for sale and live music and flamenco dancers to entertain the crowd. Everyone had a great time!
If you plan to spend the day in Ulster County, make sure you visit other local places, such as The Walkway Over the Hudson, read my blog post about this wonderful place by clicking

Benmarl Winery in the Fall
We were lucky enough when offered an opportunity to have family portraits taken at Benmarl Winery in the Fall.
As a family, we love having fun and we find any moment worth enjoying. After the family photos were taken, we decide it’s a good idea to enjoy our own photo shoot on the Benmarl grounds.
